It really bothers me that so many people are making out that the closing down of Megaupload is some sort of tragedy. I have two things to say in regards to this …
- It really isn’t the end of the world, you still have a whole load of other sites you can use for your download desires, so get over it.
- Kim Dotcom made approximately $175 million off of the opinion that “music should be free” … so who’s fooling who? He lived a life the majority of us can only dream of, a life of wealth & luxury, a life that only the upper ring of musicians get to live.A common argument I see in support of illegal downloading is that “the record companies make too much money” yet I see no posts questioning the amount of money Kim Dotcom was making, instead it’s all “my life is over, boo hoo hoo”, and I fail to understand the lack of disgust at his obscene wealth.
I think basically it boils down to “it doesn’t affect me directly so why should I care?” and that saddens me because your ignorance is helping to fill the bank accounts of people who had nothing to do with the making of your favourite pieces of music, film, and television.
